Chiang Mai remains the budget benchmark for this region — the lowest rent range of the four, with an established, mature nomad infrastructure. Da Nang comes close on cost with a more compact city and beach access, though beachfront rents have risen enough that it's no longer the clear discount it once was. Bali (Canggu) costs meaningfully more across every category here, but that premium buys the island's dense nomad community and lifestyle — it's a genuine trade-off, not just a worse deal. Ho Chi Minh City sits in between: pricier than Da Nang, especially in District 1, but with a bigger city's job market and international dining scene as the trade-off.
