ExpatFYI.com ("ExpatFYI," "we," "us") is published by IGNE Publishing, LLC. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

Email address, if you sign up for our newsletter or request a quiz result. Usage data collected automatically through analytics (pages visited, time on site, general location). Quiz and calculator inputs you provide, used to generate your results — these are not linked to your identity unless you also submit your email.

How we use information

To send the content you've requested (quiz results, newsletter). To understand which pages are useful and which need updating. To serve relevant advertising through Google AdSense.

Cookies and advertising

ExpatFYI uses cookies for analytics and to serve ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising through Google's Ads Settings.

Third parties

We use third-party services for email delivery, analytics, and advertising. We don't sell your personal information to third parties.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from any email at any time using the link in the email. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, or delete your data — email legal@expatfyi.com to exercise them, and we'll respond directly rather than through an automated process.

If you're in the European Economic Area or UK

You have specific rights under the GDPR: to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to receive your data in a portable format. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe we haven't handled your data properly. We rely on your consent for optional data collection (like the newsletter and quiz email capture) and on legitimate interest for basic analytics — you can withdraw consent at any time without affecting anything you did before that point.

If you're a California resident

Under the CCPA, you have the right to know what personal information we've collected, to request its deletion, and to opt out of its "sale" — though we don't sell personal information in the way the law defines that term. You won't be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.

International data transfers

Because ExpatFYI serves a global audience, your information may be processed in a country other than the one you're in, including the United States. Where required, we rely on the standard safeguards our service providers (analytics, advertising, email) have in place for cross-border transfers.

Data retention

We keep email addresses and form submissions only as long as needed to provide what you signed up for, plus a reasonable period for recordkeeping — generally no more than a few years of inactivity before we delete stale records.
