Estonia Digital Nomad Visa: Requirements
What you need to qualify for the Estonia Digital Nomad Visa — income, documents, and the fine print that trips people up.
Estonia was one of the first countries to launch a dedicated Digital Nomad Visa, in 2020, and pairs it with its well-known e-Residency program — a separate digital business-registration system that's often confused with the visa but doesn't itself grant any right to live in Estonia.
The Digital Nomad Visa requires proof of remote employment or freelance income above a published threshold, tied to the Estonian average wage and adjusted periodically. As of 2026, official guidance puts that figure at €4,500/month gross — a real increase from the roughly €3,500 figure still circulating in some older content, so treat anything below €4,000 as outdated.
Don't confuse this with e-Residency — e-Residency lets you register and run an EU-based company remotely from anywhere in the world, but it is not an immigration status and does not let you live in Estonia. The two are genuinely separate programs that happen to both use the word 'digital.'
- Proof of remote income — €4,500/month gross as of 2026, documented across the prior 6 months
- Valid passport
- Proof of accommodation
- Health insurance
