- Apply in person at a Mexican consulate in your home country — this cannot generally be done online or from within Mexico for first-time applicants.
- Bring proof of income/savings, your passport, and photos to the consulate appointment.
- If approved, you receive a visa sticker in your passport, valid for a limited window to enter Mexico.
- Within 30 days of entering Mexico, you must visit an INM (immigration) office to exchange the visa for your resident card and get fingerprinted.
