Best Countries for Zero Personal Income Tax
The UAE and Bermuda both offer 0% personal income tax — but that doesn't mean your total tax bill is zero.
Among the countries covered on this site, the UAE and Bermuda both stand out for having no personal income tax at all, for everyone, regardless of visa status — a genuinely different structure from every other country here. Barbados belongs in this conversation too, though differently: its Welcome Stamp program doesn't make Barbados a 0%-tax country generally, but Section 4 of its Remote Employment Act, 2020 explicitly deems Welcome Stamp holders non-tax-residents by statute — a real, confirmed 0% outcome specifically for nomad visa holders, not just informal practice.
The single most important thing to understand about both: 0% local tax doesn't mean 0% total tax. If you remain a tax resident of your home country, or your home country taxes citizens regardless of residency (as the US does), you may still owe tax there regardless of where you're physically living. This is the most commonly misunderstood detail across every 0%-tax destination, not specific to either country.
Panama's territorial tax system is worth mentioning alongside these two — it doesn't offer 0% on all income, but foreign-sourced income is generally not taxed by Panama regardless of residency status, which functions similarly for many nomads' actual situations.
This is a case where the cost of getting it wrong is high enough that generic content — including this page — shouldn't be your only input. Talk to a cross-border tax professional about your specific home-country obligations before choosing a destination based on its tax rate alone.
This is informational, not advice. Visa, tax, and immigration rules change, and a general guide can't account for your specific situation.
