UAE Golden Visa for Retirees
A separate route from the Virtual Working Programme — built around age and savings, not remote income.
The main UAE visa guide covers the Virtual Working Programme, built around remote employment income. Worth clarifying directly, since even UAE-focused guides frequently conflate this: the age-55+ retiree route is a distinct "Retirement Visa" program, administratively adjacent to but genuinely separate from the flagship 10-year Golden Visa most people mean by that name — the two have different thresholds and different validity periods, not just different eligibility ages.
Confirmed: the Retirement Visa qualifies through property ownership of at least AED 1 million (lower than the standard Golden Visa's AED 2 million property threshold), or equivalent savings in a UAE bank account, or verified monthly income — a combination of property value and savings is also permitted. Applicants also need at least 15 years of work experience, inside or outside the UAE.
The headline benefit is the same one covered in the main UAE guide and the site's zero-tax country breakdown — no personal income tax — but the same caution applies with equal force here: this doesn't erase whatever tax obligations you carry from your home country or citizenship.
Confirmed: the Retirement Visa is valid for 5 years and renewable, provided the qualifying criteria still hold at renewal — genuinely longer than the Virtual Working Programme's shorter renewable term, but notably shorter than the standard Golden Visa's 10-year validity, since these remain two distinct programs despite sharing a general "long-term UAE residency" positioning. A spouse and children can be sponsored under this route as well.
This is informational, not advice. Visa, tax, and immigration rules change, and a general guide can't account for your specific situation.
